a slice of america
updates updates updates, i have reached almost the end of my exchange stint in UT (university of texas at austin) how funny that i never heard of it when i was posted by NUS for sep/study abroad. first choice was to a science institute in Sweden, the second in Denmark i think, third and fourth to UC Santa Barbara, UCLA and lastly to Australia, some random uni i cant remember.
how sweet it is i got sent to somewhere in the united states, to a city in the lone star state. haha when i hear that name, i think of austin powers. and how probably i might get to meet a guy with his bevy of girls dancing down the streets. a retro look with those vintage cars. haha i did get to see tons of vintage cars along south congress but no austin powers though.
im thankful for many things here i've met. most importantly, it would be the friends, the friendships made that made this stay less dull and less empty. they were the new humour to my strange, newly acquainted world when i first reached. haha i hung out with the same colour people, my fellow singaporeans/malaysians, asians!! with the other colours thrown in to make the painting more vibrant, the locals - my american friends. though the ratio is not 1:1 i'm happy and in my skin with the yellow. it's a different yellow though, definitely americanized so it's kinda like a new treat for me but familiar taste. yum! heh
probably they were also friendlier and i was too with them. i needn't fake the accent, and the sound we utter to each other strikes a chord and the words would flow. almost like verbal diarrhoea at times, with the increase in decibels. haha asians surely speak louder than the peeps here. i sometimes feel bad in public for imposing on strangers my conversation. heh
oh well the good, great, AWESOME! is almost coming to an end. i like how pammy says it isn't the end, and i would probably say it's the beginning of a good old friendship when i physically leave here. i lamented to gillian awhile ago saying, why have good friends you like here and hang out often with them, when you know you're gonna leave in time and so soon. but hey we'll soon meet up again, i have promised myself and basically we're so tech dependent we can be updated through facebook blogs msn albeit inpersonal.
i thank you for being YOU and a part of my journey here. :) you know who you are guys and you've been just fun & lovely.
im looking forward to summer holiday with you guys to LA and SF.
bonus i get to see my sister too! which needs my company urgently, she's been naughty while im away and gave mom some nasty time. haha im sure you agree with this, bella.
and to top it up, mom will meet sis and i later in Seattle, we'll do that and a drive up to Vancouver to devour good asian food and salmon (thanks beeba for your lengthy promotion on canada) for as long as we like and a trippin down the ocean to Victoria.
with that, i'll wish mom happy birthday along with a goodbye. from there, i'll go down to new york to meet up with some friends to catch up. and in that span of 1 month,at the end of it i'll leave the land of independence to xing jia po.
mixed emotions i bet, im missing you and will be missing you. the heart will be torn, parting is such sweet sorrow.
